3Com’s eXpandable Virtual Network (XVN) solution provides an open platform for converged services that assures the availability, service quality and scalability of individual application services across the network.
With XVN, individual services including email and collaboration, voice and video, CAD software, financial applications and healthcare records management can be assigned specific policies for priority, latency, availability and security. By doing this, XVN goes beyond network availability to provide “personalized” support for each service because every application is different.
3Com XVN uses a unique approach to virtually combine multiple switches so they appear as a single logical switch. This network scalability is achieved by virtualizing the network using 3Com’s eXpandable Resilient Networking (XRN) to combine multiple switches into a distributed network fabric that functions like a single switch. At the core, 3Com’s eXpandable Virtual Core (XVC) can be used to combine multiple core switches into one powerful virtual core that can be managed as a single logical backbone switch.
